Astrid (Doppel), 2022

Das 2 Kanal-Video-Portrait „Astrid (Doppel)” bewegt sich an der Schnittstelle von Fotografie und Bewegtbild. Die Arbeit stellt den Blick und besonders die Pose in den Fokus. Die Pose ist wie eine „vor-fotografische Fotografie“ (Kaja Silverman): Das Subjekt versucht mit der Pose Handlungsmacht über den Prozess des Zum-Bild-Werdens zu erlangen. Das Subjekt versucht das Bild vorwegzunehmen.

Für Astrid (Doppel) nimmt das Modell, von mir teilweise vorgegebene, Posen ein. Auch der Blickwechsel von der einen in die andere Kamera ist von mir choreografiert. Durch die Verdopplung der Perspektive entsteht eine ganz eigene Logik des Blicks: Während wir uns in jedem Augenblick entscheiden können, ob wir nach links oder rechts schauen, ob wir dem Blick des Modells ausweichen oder ob wir ihn suchen, scheint Astrid immer beides zugleich zu tun. Auch wenn sie nicht zu uns schaut, sieht sie uns an.

The 2-channel video portrait “Astrid (Doppel)” moves at the interface of photography and moving image. The work focuses on the gaze and especially the pose. The pose is like a "pre-photographic photograph" (Kaja Silverman): With the pose, the subject tries to gain agency over the process of becoming the image. The subject tries to anticipate the image.

For “Astrid (Doppel)”, the model assumes poses that are partly predetermined by me. The change of gaze from one camera to the other is also choreographed by me. The doubling of the perspective creates a very unique logic of the gaze: While we can decide at any moment whether we look to the left or to the right, whether we avoid the model's gaze or whether we seek it, Astrid always seems to do both at the same time. Even when she is not looking at us, she is looking at us.
